PVC Curtains

Using PVC for Refrigeration

If you have a refrigerated room or unit, it’s very important to make sure that your cooling system is as efficient as possible. One of the best ways to do this is to use an insulating material to prevent the cool air from leaking to the outside – or the warm outside air from leaking inside. PVC strip curtains can do this job easily, so long as you get them set up the right way. Here’s how you can ensure that everything works properly to give you the best refrigeration results.

Using the correct type

To start with, you need to make sure that you are using the right type of PVC. The thing about PVC is that it gets less flexible in colder temperatures. If you continue to bend and move it around in those conditions, it will end up cracking. Instead of having this happen, you need to make sure that you purchase a high-quality PVC curtain which is suitable for the temperatures you are expecting. If you are using temperatures below zero, it is highly recommended that you look for polar grade curtains. This might help to improve durability and life even if you are simply refrigerating. If you order low-quality PVC, you might find yourself replacing it far more often than you would want or expect. This is why it is important to go with the highest possible quality right from the start.

Fitting correctly

Once you have your curtains, it is important to be sure that they are fitted correctly. There should not be any gaps off to either side of the cooled area, as these will allow air to flow around the curtains. There should also be no gaps above or below the range of the curtains. Make sure that they are attached securely and have no risk of coming away from the ceiling or from the top of the unit that you have attached them to. If you are fitting them to a unit in particular, you may want to measure the space and order the exact size. For a room, you can do the same. If you do not yet know the size of the unit that you are ordering for, you can order a larger size and cut the curtains down to a more suitable length once they are properly fitted. You should also consider whether you want your curtains to be fixed in place at the top, or whether they should be fitted onto a rail so that they can slide backwards and forwards as needed. This can make it easier to move large items or large quantities of items into and out of the room or unit at a single time. It also works well for areas which are only refrigerated at certain times.

Checking for suitability

Once your curtains are installed, it’s important to check that everything is working well. You can monitor the average temperature both inside and outside the unit to ensure that you are getting the optimum efficiency. As you continue to use the curtains, you should also check regularly that certain functions are fulfilled. Firstly, they should be kept clean so that it is possible to see through the PVC. Secondly, you should ensure that there is no damage – this is rare, but if scissors or a knife are used to deliberately cut away part of the PVC, you will have a gap through which the temperature can be affected. Finally, you should also ensure that the material is not cracking and that there are no serious scratches on the PVC. If at any time you feel that the PVC is damaged beyond further use, you can easily order another set of strip curtains to replace them, even if you have them fitted on a rail.

It’s very easy to control temperature flow when you have PVC curtains in place, but this is not their only use. They can also prevent sound and smells from escaping as much, which can be a huge benefit if you are storing food items. It’s also great for commercial freezers and refrigeration units, which will not be allowed to pollute the rest of the room or factory.
